What Would God Have Me Do

Hello Friends,

I was speaking to someone a while back about our job as Christians and what is expected of us. During this conversation they said to me, "There's nothing that we aren't supposed to do, we can do whatever we want and it's okay."  I disagree, and here is why; Jesus died for our sins so that we wouldn't have to die for the mistakes we make. It is only reasonable for us to keep our lives clean for ourselves and for Him. If we live a life of wickedness, then Jesus died for nothing, as far as the sinning individual goes. Paul said it best in Romans 6-15 - "What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid!"

We must make it a priority to serve our God and to keep our lives sin free. Not only because it's the least we could do, but because there are negative consequence if we do not follow His ways. Take for example King Solomon; In the first book of Kings he was described as the wealthiest and wisest man on the entire planet, yet once he married 700 pagan women and began worshiping strange gods, he got demoted and had much of his wealth taken away. 1 Kings 11:10 - "...he kept not that which the Lord commanded."

Very similarly in first Samuel, King Saul went against God and did not destroy all of the enemies' belongings, and therefore God turned away from him. 1st Samuel 13:14 "...because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded of thee."

Are you seeing any similarities here? When we disobey God, keep company with immoral people and live our lives contrary to what is best for us according to His word, negative things will inevitably follow.

An interesting thing to note is that God is never the first to turn away from someone. In every account where God ended his relationship with someone, they first disobeyed and turned away from Him. Before doing anything please remember to think - "What would God have me do?"

God Bless,
Noah Brewster
